It was in 2016 when I was living in an amazing Llandudno in North Wales and had a job as bartender and part time waiter in a hotel. I knew I want to keep travelling, live adventure, meet different cultures and as I had already international work experience in hospitality I realized it will be easier to stay in this field which will help me to get a job quite easily in many countries. I knew this job will make me happy as long as it will go along with my travelling dreams.
Which way to go?
On the other hand I knew, I don't want to be a waiter another 40 years. I had a high school of civil engineering and in the same field university as well (unfortunately I didn't finish the university, travelling was stronger than my will to finish university) and no work experience within the field. I had several options which way to go. I could further my career in hospitality and/or start to focus on having own business. As I couldn't completely decide which way to go (as you could guess) I chose both so I could see what options will become available for me in both directions.
The only available option
The direction was decided but how to manage travelling, full time working and studying? I had to take into the consideration that I change places or even countries almost every 6 months. This is the reason why regular approach wouldn't work. I needed the freedom of movement at any point of time (even to second side of the globe) and flexible deadlines, which would guarantee I wouldn't lose all the study progress and be forced to start over, as hospitality industry can get very busy. To start study online was the only available option to meet all my requirements.
Keep getting better
As I was still undecided which one of two directions to take (hospitality or own business) I started to study courses connected with hospitality as first. I just followed the rule: "Keep getting better in whatever secures your meal on the table" It was also to get better jobs in hospitality in the future and possibly more job offers available.
Why not to have both at the same time?
Later on, I started to choose courses where the knowledge gained from them could be used in almost any field. This gave me and advantage as I could go still forward without knowing the exact direction. You could be surprised how many such paths are there, where at the end you have multiple options to choose from (leadership, management, business, customer service, digital marketing, project management or even individual courses as fire safety, data protection, first aid, body language, time management, conflict resolution and much more).
It's better to be ready
After 2 years, I was still studying some online courses connected with hospitality but the main focus was on having my own business direction as I knew the opportunity for the own business could come anytime. That's was the reason to be ready and have eyes widely open. I already had a few business opportunities before but at that time I didn't have enough money nor knowledge.
The opportunity really appeared a few years later (2019). This time I had all I needed, to make my dream become reality.
